UMA BONECA PARA MENITINHA
This children's novel is about three generations born in a place steeped in stories. In this story of wonder that seems to have been told around a campfire, the girl, “Menitinha”, and her grandmother coexist. The plot takes place between traditions from other times, songs of washerwomen in the river, the smell of guava paste and even, in the early hours of the morning, an enchanted hour.
Peaceful, this book only has its first impression. With each chapter, we are surprised and the more fantastic the story becomes, the greater the strange familiarity we feel with its characters and their choices. As if - or precisely for this reason - they came out of a rich broth of Brazilian popular cultures from which we are all made.
A doll for Menitinha, which was illustrated by the artist Larissa de Souza, is a novel about affection, about our origins and about everything that cannot be explained, but is understood very well.
