SR. BOAVENTURA
Mr. Bonaventure is a story told by J.R.R. Tolkien to his young children in the 1930s. In addition to writing everything by hand, Tolkien also made the illustrations that make up the book. Considered a tale of eccentricity, its plot and drawings are compared to classics of children's literature such as Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll, Pedro Coelho, by Beatrix Potter, and A Book of Nonsense, by Edward Lear. Mr. Boaventura is a methodical guy, who likes to wear tall hats and is used to a quiet life in his house with tall rooms, in the company of Girafoelho, his eccentric pet, who almost only wakes up to eat. One day, Mr. Boaventura decides to buy a car and visit his friends, the Broncos. From then on, he gets into big trouble, involving his friends and acquaintances in them. Despite being a very different story from the rest of Tolkien's work, more aimed at young children, Mr. Boaventura already has some of the author's typical traits, such as his criticism of modernity and touches of the unusual. The result is a fun story, full of action and adventures that guarantee a good laugh for children and adults.
