Licco Razan is a seasoned elder who wants to tell his story so that his family can understand the journey that began in distant Bulgaria, passed through Turkey, and eventually took root in the Amazon.
Minev, an immigrant who was a political exile in Belgium before coming to Brazil—and who experienced firsthand the horrors of a totalitarian regime and the challenges of making a new home in a land with such different customs and traditions—uses a blend of historical elements and a rich, flowing narrative to create Onde estão as flores? (Where Are the Flowers?).
This is a story that paints a historical panorama of Europe, recounting the previously untold rescue of 50,000 Bulgarian Jews, detailing the migratory flow of Jews to the sparsely populated Northern Region of Brazil, and advocating—without ideological bias—for a world without war.
The book’s title is inspired by the song “Where Have All the Flowers Gone?”, immortalized by Marlene Dietrich and which became a kind of anthem against war.
