Nanão is a book for children and the adults who live with them.

Any reader will have fun, identify with, be surprised by or learn to live with a Nanão. In a way, everyone is, has been or knows a Nanão in their life. Who hasn't said no to mean yes at some time? Out of tantrums, out of insecurity, to be different, to not give in, to irritate, because he thinks he doesn't know how or because he's afraid of making mistakes...

The name of the character in this narrative already announces his main characteristic: he only answers “no”, even when asked if he wants to play, eat something delicious, go for a walk, see his friends... Why is that? This is the question that will cause a lot of concern among readers,  After all, who says no to a walk in the park or a brigadeiro?

Not giving up and intrigued by the many no's received, the character who always invited Nanão to do something wonders what he could do to change Nanão's response and serious behavior. If the problem wasn't in the answer, then it should be in the question. How to do them in a different way?

This change of point of view and the willingness to discover a solution that transforms Nanão's denials into an affirmative answer thus begins the second part of the narrative.

All questions are now formulated so that NO has the meaning of YES! Nanão thus gains the freedom to say no, but does not leave any activity aside.

“Hey, Nanão, are you tired of playing so much?

No!!!!”

The story behind the book: Gustavo and Milo, father and son, created this story that began as an initiative from Milo. One day, he decided that no matter what his father asked him, he would only answer “no”. The stubbornness was transformed into a game and, since then, it has become a frequent make-believe between the two — including with reversed roles.

The initial designs, both of the main character and of much of the scenery and objects, were also drawn for the first time by Milo. The idea was developed by Gustavo, who saw in the story created by the two the possibility of being transformed into an illustrated book.

He then gave it a narrative axis in two parts, wrote the text, organized the questions in which “no” has different meanings, and, always inspired by shared creation and by Milo's characters and scenes, he brought drawings based on his son's strokes and lines into the final art.
