There are backyards everywhere: in the square, in the forest, on the streets of small towns, in the back of houses and even inside each one of us (sometimes a little hidden).
In this book we will discover the backyards of children from the five Brazilian regions, where a leaf becomes a weather vane, pique is in the pequi tree and river guarantees fun!

Playing is a kind of mother tongue of childhood. And it was through this language that Gabriela Romeu, Marlene Peret and Samuel Macedo got to know Brazil, connecting with children on the banks of rivers, in large urban centers, in quilombola communities and indigenous peoples – regions that are sometimes close, sometimes very distant. The records of this long journey that began in 2011, in texts, videos and photos, are gathered in this book, permeated with knowledge, narratives and experiences shared with children in their backyards. The encounters with Valdecir and his carretão, with Milena under the shade of the mango tree, Welleton, Joel, Laísa and Arawari are portraits of that exact moment, of that peculiar childhood knowledge, which belongs to each one, but is so common to everyone –– after all, the games change names, but, in their different versions, they make up the universal language of playing. grown-ups, from the North or the South, conjugating a verb so from childhood (and forever): playing.”
