AMANHÃ
"Is there school tomorrow?" ask three girls. Three generations united by the desire to chart paths toward new discoveries. Between colors that sprout from the earth or come from afar, between astonishment and anxiety, traces, words, drawings, and songs emerge, showing the paths to tomorrow.
Based on childhood memories, this book weaves together three intertwined narratives. The first story recalls the author’s memories and takes us to the rural environment where she lived, describing her journey to school. The landscape of the road, with its varying shades of light, transports us to somewhere in the countryside, inviting readers to walk alongside her.
The second story also takes place in Brazil during World War II, when the Brazilian government banned the use of the Japanese language, closing schools, prohibiting the circulation of publications, and preventing immigrants and their descendants from traveling freely. In this context, we follow Sayuri and witness her resistance to continue studying despite the prohibitions.
Finally, we are introduced to Orie’s account, a Japanese immigrant, whose childhood in Japan inspires the third narrative. A vivid and detailed memory, it offers us a glimpse into her culture.
