Built from scenes of children having fun outdoors, The Tree in Me explores the many ways in which we humans are strong, creative, and connected to others. The beauty and grace of the illustrations make readers want to transport themselves into the book and the writing style is simple and rhythmic, with short sentences that awaken the senses throughout the reading, very appropriate to be done out loud.
Corinna Luyken's text accompanies the protagonist along a joyful journey of self-discovery, self-understanding and self-appreciation by recognizing that many of the characteristics of trees are also alive within us. There is also a visual nod to one of the most eye-opening and paradigm-shifting scientific discoveries in our lifetime – the astonishing mycelial web by which trees communicate underground, a discovery that may be nature's loveliest metaphor for friendship and affection.
