A COR DE CORALINE

A COR DE CORALINE

$15.00Price

Coraline and Pedrinho are at school, doing a regular activity. Then, the boy asks to borrow the skin-colored pencil. Before choosing the pencil and giving it to Pedrinho, Coraline reflects on the request and her multiple responses. The girl analyzes the contents of her pencil box: there are twelve of them, of twelve different colors and with twelve names with which she is more than familiar. But she can’t identify this “skin color” right away. And what color is that?

In the pages that follow, Rampazo, author of the illustrations and text, parades in different tones the child's ideas about colors and skin, extrapolating the real and permeating the field of fantasy. Coraline pulls from her childhood imagination the beings she knows, trying to remember what colors they have. Pencils also color some feelings, offering a further range of possibilities for using colors when it comes to skin. After so much reflection, the girl ends up surprising her friend Pedrinho in a very peculiar way.

The short text, narrated in the first person, favors the child reader's identification with the narrator character and her questions. With delicate lines, the illustrations are balanced on richly colored pages and others in which white predominates, offering the reader intervals for reflection on the ideas of the girl Coraline.

Without relying on the colors white or black, Rampazo deconstructs arguments and concepts about the existence of just one “skin color”. With lightness and creativity, the author respectfully explores the issue of ethnic diversity, a culturally complex issue for contemporary society. Also featuring a fourth cover text signed by Ignácio de Loyola Brandão, Coraline's Color is an essential book for children, parents and teachers.
